PERSUASIVE ESSAY DUE MONDAY 2/11/08

This is a reminder that the persuasive essays on the topic: "Should high school students be required to pass an exam in order to graduate?" is due on Monday, 2/11/08. It must be typed, double-spaced, font size 12, and 500 words (2 typed pages) minimum. Each day that it is late you will lose 10 points. "My printer at home was out of ink." "My grandmother said she was going to get the computer fixed this week." Not valid excuses. Plan for the worst and hope for the best. If you must, you could email me your essay at lmullen@phila.k12.pa.us. Plan on handing me your paper at the beginning of class. Have it printed out. Have it stapled. Thank you.

Quote of the Day for Thursday, 2/7/08

“Don’t be in a hurry to condemn because he doesn’t do what you do or think as you think or as fast. There was a time when you didn’t know what you know today." --Malcolm X (Former leader of the Nation of Islam; founder of Organization of Afro-American Unity)

Do you ever find yourself becoming impatient with someone younger than yourself? Why do you think this happens? Do you recall anyone older who was impatient with you? How did that make you feel?

Quote of the Day for Friday, 2/8/08

“You win one day, you lose the next day, you don’t take it personally. You get up every day and go on.” --Hillary Rodham Clinton

What do you think about Hillary Clinton’s point of view? Have you ever felt like pulling up the covers and not getting out of bed because you were disappointed about something? What made you get out of bed?
