1. What types of professions would be celebrated in a modern poetic tribute to Americans?
People such as police officers, firemen, teachers, doctors, lawyers, bus drivers, etc.

2. What words and phrases indicate Whitman's empathy with heroic people?
"I hear America singing" "Those of mechanics, each singing his as it should blithe and strong"

3. If you could choose a modern American hero to add to Whitman’s poem, “I Hear America Singing,” Who would you choose and why?
A modern hero would be a police officer because they establish order and without them there would be no justice.

4. What do you believe is Whitman’s concept of heroism?
Heroism lies within every American because we contribute to every part of the American way of life. We help to make America the great country that it is.

5. Throughout “Song of Myself,” Whitman uses the pronoun “I” in order to empathize with people. What effect does this use of the first person have on the reader?
The effect it has on the reader is that the reader can see things from Whitman's eyes and better understand Whitman's feelings about things around him.

6. How would Whitman celebrate the cultural diversity found in America today?
Whitman would most likely write a poem about the beauty of races uniting and working together

7. What landscapes do you feel Whitman would praise today?
Whitman would praise landscapes like Miami, New York City, the Rocky Mountains, national parks, and many places out west.

8. What sound devices would be reminiscent of Whitman’s style to describe these landscapes?
Maybe the sound of chimes for the sound of wind. The sound of bird chirps because he was outside on the grass.

9. Do you think Whitman would sing the praises of technology? Explain.
No because in some cases it deprives Americans from their jobs
