WUP for Tuesday, 2.26.08

"I'm just an average citizen. Many black people were arrested for defying the bus laws. They prepared the way." --Rosa Parks

Tell whether or not you consider Rosa Parks to be "an average citizen." Who appreciates the heroes we never hear about? Can they be heroes if nobody knows about them? Nominate "an average citizen" you know as a hero. What are your reasons for choosing this person?

irony
: The use of a word or phrase to mean the exact opposite of its literal or usual meaning; incongruity between the actual result of a sequence of events and the expected result.

caveat (n.) a warning or caution to prevent misunderstanding or discourage behavior

Punctuation
Use a comma to separate an appositive. (An appositive is a word or phrase that repeats the noun directly before it.)
Ex. George Washington, our first president, is a hero for all of us.
My brother a Methodist minister is in town for a week.

Homework
By the beginning of class tomorrow, the blogger from your group needs to have posted your group's poem in the order in which it will be read during the presentation. The slide show creator needs to compile the images that your group will be showing in a PowerPoint presentation. It would be best to save that presentation to a flash drive and email it to yourself for backup. Presentations begin tomorrow. I believe that we will get through them all tomorrow, so be ready to go the moment you get into class.
