The profession that was celebrated in a modern poetic tribute to the Americans were teachers, firemen, and lawyres.
2. What words and phrases indicate Whitman’s empathy with heroic people? It was strong and cherished.
3. If you could choose a modern American hero to add to Whitman’s poem, “I Hear America Singing,” Who would you choose and why? We chosed Barack Obama. We chosed him because he is an African American male who is running for president and many people believe in him. Another reason is that he his determined to make a change in the world.
4. What do you believe is Whitman’s concept of heroism? Whitman thinks that heroism is not really being a hero, but is the workers that builds up a free America.
5. Throughout “Song of Myself,” Whitman uses the pronoun “I” in order to empathize with people. What effect does this use of the first person have on the reader? It appeals that Walt Whitman himself more realistic to the reader.
6. How would Whitman celebrate the cultural diversity found in America today?
By discribing different cultuers and different life styles amongst people.
7. What landscapes do you feel Whitman would praise today? The forest and mountains, basicaly nature because he feel as though he is apart of it.
8. What sound devices would be reminiscent of Whitman’s style to describe these landscapes? "Houses and rooms are full of perfume".... Whitman stresses the "s" in the stanza ; An all rooms of perfumes makes the settign sound soft and fragrant.
9. Do you think Whitman would sing the praises of technology? Explain.
No. We believe that he would sing the praises of nature because it inspired him to write his poetry.
